United Tribes International Powwow: Home of the Champions National Release Date

(Bismarck, ND) United Tribes International Powwow “Home of the Champions” is scheduled for national release September 21, 2004. This 35th anniversary two CD package is a retrospective of some of the finest moments of the United Tribes International Powwow selected from Makoché Recording Company's archive of over 200 hours of live recordings of the Powwow over the past decade. Home of the Champions will be first available for purchase at United Tribes International Powwow, September 8th through 12th.
Featured drum groups include Bad Nation, Big Bear, Blackstone, Dakota Nation, Dakota Travels, Lakota Thunder, Medicine Horse, Meskwaki Nation, Midnight Express, Mighty Few, MGM, North Buffalo, Northern Straight and Whitefish Juniors.
Disc two of the set is an Enhanced CD which includes the 13 minute Home of the Champions video and a special section containing the following recordings made in 1915 by O.G. Libby: Horse Medicine Song sung by Little Soldier, Ree War Song (which was sung in preparation for the Custer fight) and the song heard during the river charge at the Custer fight sung by Red Star. These recordings are presented courtesy of the State Historical Society of North Dakota.
United Tribes Technical College, a nonprofit organization privately owned by the recognized Indian Nations of North Dakota, has been serving the academic and cultural needs of American Indian students and their families since 1969, and the United Tribes International Powwow has been large part of that. The Powwow is held each September in the Lone Star Arena at United Tribes Technical College. Representing over 70 tribes, featuring over 1500 dancers and drummers and drawing over 20,000 spectators, the Powwow is a premier cultural event.

This CD is a statement of Makoché's support in the mission of United Tribes Technical College and the power of the culture that it represents.
